Unclogging a Kitchen Sink Using a Wet/Dry Vacuum
One of the toughest challenges you would face as a resident is to get your clogged sink repaired. The case becomes all the more difficult when this happens at the start of the day when you are rushing to work. With all the hectic tasks around, the residents generally make a phone call to plumbing professionals and pay them for what could have easily been fixed by them.
The best way to get your sink unclogged is to use a wet/dry vacuum. It is quite unlikely that people will have a wet/dry vacuum in their house. Buying a wet/dry vacuum would be very handy. But, if you do not have access to a vacuum, there are quite a few shops which rent them.
Either you own or rent a wet/dry vacuum, the first thing you must do is to read the instructions carefully. Working on a particular brand may slightly differ from the other.
If you are doing this for the first time, this will be a really adventurous experience. Before setting out to unclog, make sure you have some towels to clean the dirty mess which spills sometimes during the process of unclogging.
Just before doing these types of work, know the science behind it. It works on the principle that the clog is destroyed using air pressure generated by the vacuum.
All you need to do is to place the hose on the vacuum tube into the drain. The hose is nothing but a conveying tube. Switch the vacuum tube on. As soon as you switch on the motor inside the vacuum tube starts generating the pressure required for breaking the clogs. Do not get afraid of the sound produced while the pressure is generated. You are expected to hear a hum at the start. The pressure generated will clear the clog and the water starts to flow freely. In rare cases there is a chance of pressure back flow. At that time the surrounding gets grimy. Be prepared to clean the dirt.
All in all this is a very easy process which saves the money you pay for plumbing pros.
Using chemicals to clean the clog can be toxic. The biggest advantage of this method is that it is non-toxic. At the end you will also get the satisfaction of repairing something by yourself.
